How this scam works

A caller from a 'telecom company' says your SIM will stop working unless you upgrade to 5G/eSIM, then takes over your number to receive bank OTPs.

• Asked to forward an SMS or share a code
• 5G/eSIM 'upgrade' call
• Phone suddenly loses network

If you're targeted

1. Don't pay, don't share OTPs or PINs, and don't install any app they suggest.
2. If money was sent, call your bank and then 1930 within the first hour — quick reporting gives the best chance of freezing the money.
3. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in and keep screenshots and payment details as evidence.
