Expiring reward points / credit card scam in India

How this scam works

An SMS says your SBI/HDFC reward points expire today and asks you to redeem them on a link that captures card and OTP.

Warning signs

• Points 'expire today'
• Shortened or non-bank link
• Asks for full card number, CVV and OTP

If you're targeted

1. Don't pay, don't share OTPs or PINs, and don't install any app they suggest.
2. If money was sent, call your bank and then 1930 within the first hour — quick reporting gives the best chance of freezing the money.
3. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in and keep screenshots and payment details as evidence.
