How this scam works

Tampered USB charging points at airports, stations or cafes can install malware or copy data; RBI and CERT-In advise avoiding public USB ports.

• Unknown USB cable or kiosk
• Phone prompts to 'trust this device'
• Free charging station in a public place

If you're targeted

1. Don't pay, don't share OTPs or PINs, and don't install any app they suggest.
2. If money was sent, call your bank and then 1930 within the first hour — quick reporting gives the best chance of freezing the money.
3. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in and keep screenshots and payment details as evidence.
