Fake hotel / pilgrimage booking scam in India

How this scam works
Look-alike websites and social media pages offer hotel, helicopter or guest-house bookings for places like Kedarnath or Somnath and vanish after payment.

Warning signs
- Booking only via WhatsApp or personal UPI
- Site not the official tourism or temple portal
- Big discount for immediate payment
If you're targeted
- Don't pay, don't share OTPs or PINs, and don't install any app they suggest.
- If money was sent, call your bank and then 1930 within the first hour — quick reporting gives the best chance of freezing the money.
- File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in and keep screenshots and payment details as evidence.
